Introducing ‘Talk Therapy’

Sometimes it’s feels good to get things ‘off our chest’, BUT, Talk-Therapy is MUCH MORE than that. It draws on learnings from the practice of NLP(Neuro Linquistic Programming).

The words we use when we communicate often give away signs of how we see the world and the limitations we have given ourselves. A lot of times when people have problems, the problem feels intensified by the fact that they feel like they don’t have any choices and are bound by this.

As a therapist, we are trained to ‘listen-out’ for specific patterns or words which may indicate where the limitations of choice may be. When we hear those words we may well politely interrupt and get the client to expand on those points.

This gets the client to examine more closely what they have just said and often times, the client will make a realization which they have never thought of before.

This quite often leads to a different perspective and opens up more opportunities and options than were previously available to that client.

When people feel they have more options available to them, it can help ease the feelings of frustration and anxiety.

Consider This Analogy

Imagine driving down a road and it’s the only route you know to get to your destination. If there was a road-block and you were held up in traffic, then of course you will feel frustrated or some kind of discomfort.

BUT, if you knew, that there were many little side-streets which could take you past this road-block, then the problem doesn’t become an issue.

Believe it or not, a lot of times clients DO actually know these detours, but for varying reasons have forgotten them.

My job as a therapist is to make you aware of these side-streets.
